The following report of dorm adventures comes courtesy of Dean of Residential Life Kristen Lew...

"Every fall the dorm parents run an annual trip with SBA’s boarding students. This year we packed up three Suburbans with five dorm parents and fifteen kids and drove down the California valley to Santa Cruz for some camping in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

"On the Saturday of our trip, the Advanced Photography students packed up with photography instructor and dorm parent Andy Giordano at 5:30 am and went to take sunrise photos at Moss Landing. Upon their return, the group ventured deeper into the Santa Cruz Redwoods to explore the strange phenomenon of the Mystery Spot.

"After our gravity-defying adventures, the group headed down to the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk. Everyone enjoyed rides, junk food, swimming, and skimboarding.

"Sunday, we packed up camp and drove to the Monterey Aquarium. It was otter days, which highlighted the otter conservation and education programs at the aquarium. Highlights from the trip included seeing the great white shark in the Open Sea Exhibit, The Secret Life of Seahorses, and watching the otters eat treats.

"The fall trip serves as a way for students and staff to relax and get away from Donner Summit. It also is a great opportunity for us all to have a few days together without a set schedule and our normal routine. While in camp, we shared group meals, longboarding and scootering sessions, campfires, and, of course, smores.
